Fmr Clinton NSC Staffer: Obama Admin’s Syria Strategy Is ‘A Failure’ ‘By All Standards’ For Last Four Years
Hillary Mann Leverett, who served on the National Security Council under both Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush stated that the deployment of US special forces to Syria isn’t a significant change to the Obama administration’s strategy, which “for the past four years has, I think by all standards really been a failure” on Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Melissa Harris-Perry.” Leverett said, “unfortunately, I think, as the White House spokesman said later in his briefing to the press, it really isn’t much of a change in the Obama administration’s strategy. Which is unfortunate, because the strategy for the past four years has, I think by all standards really been a failure. It’s led to massive death and destruction inside of Syria, the neighboring states, and massive refugee outflows. So, this is really I think, unfortunately, more of the same. In addition to the 50 or so special forces, they’ve also allocated another $100 million to Syrian rebels to increase the fighting, increase the bloodshed in Syria. So, the strategy hasn’t gone well for four years, and this is unfortunately, an indication of more of the same.” She added, “it seems like there is a bit of disconnect between the diplomatic operation and
Jacqui Lewis: Carson Is ‘A Non-Threatening Black Body’
Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis, the Senior Minister of Middle Collegiate Church argued Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson is a “non-threatening black body” on Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Melissa Harris-Perry.” Lewis stated, “I would say this read on to the black body thing. You know, this is a black body that can be read on to with all of this evangelical fervor, non-threatening black body, non-angry black body, speak — sharing our values black body. So, I would really love to hear Dr. Carson talk about Black Lives Matter and see how many people would stay supportive of him then.” Earlier, Lewis said, “a simple answer doesn’t work for African-American folks. I think we understand our faith is a really important part of our lives, and we know that there’s something about personal transformation, but I think the black church, and I think most black Christians, no matter Evangelical or progressive, understand the transformation isn’t just an individual transaction. We would say we’re not saved until everybody’s saved. So, the transformation of systems, the eradication of poverty, housing, healthcare, all those kinds of things, that justice pocket of faith, I think is really important for black folks. And here’s — just to
Violent Brawl At German Migrant Shelter Leaves Six Injured
BERLIN (AFP) – Some 50 people at a German migrant shelter engaged in a violent brawl overnight, hurling chairs and beating each other with table legs, leaving six people injured, police said Saturday. The punch-up, which took place in the northern town of Itzehoe, was the latest illustration of the rising tensions between refugees at the country’s overstretched reception centres. The dispute broke out during the evening meal on Friday when an Arabic-speaking refugee insulted a group of Kurds, a police statement said. The confrontation quickly escalated, drawing in around 50 people who threw tables, chairs and benches and beat each other with table legs. Security guards tried to break up by fight by using pepper spray and around 50 police and six dogs were called in as backup. Four asylum seekers were treated for head injuries and two security guards sustained light injuries, the statement said. Two young Kurds – one Syrian and one Iraqi – as well as a Syrian were arrested after being singled out as the main instigators, with police saying they would be transferred to “other centres around the country”. Such incidents have multiplied at refugee centres across Germany, which is expecting to receive up to a

Trump Surges: Rubio, Carson Flat; Bush Drops
In a rolling poll that was only partially taken after Wednesday night’s debate, Investor’s Business Daily shows Republican businessman Donald Trump surging. Last month Trump sat at 17%, today he sits at 28%. In this particular poll, this surge puts Trump back in first place against Dr. Ben Carson, who was leading Trump by +7 points last month (24% to 17%). Trump now leads Carson by +5 points, 28% to 23%. It’s important to note that, compared to last month, Carson only lost a statistically insignificant -1 point. Although the DC Media assured us Rubio was the Big Winner Wednesday night, the Florida Senator did not move the needle. Rubio sat at 11% last month and sits at 11% today. The same is true for Cruz who is stuck at 6%. Bush lost -2 points, falling from 8% to 6%. The Real Clear Politics poll of polls, which includes the IBD poll, shows Trump in the lead with 27% support; Carson in second with 22%. Rubio is at 10%, while everyone else is in single digits. We’ll need to see more polls before the full effect of the CNBC debate is clear, including ones that fully take into account any post-debate shift.
Melissa Harris-Perry: I Worry ‘About Our Good Versus Bad Immigrant Narrative’
MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry stated that she worries “about our good versus bad immigrant narrative” after a discussion on immigrant labor on Saturday. Harris-Perry said, “I still worry about our good versus bad immigrant narrative that emerges, and it’s in part, actually, even if we think about DACA, activists themselves have used this as a way of getting what they can through politically palatable.” Earlier, after discussing the amount of foreign-born players in the MLB, Harris-Perry remarked, “say the phrase ‘immigrant labor’ in the context of politics, instead of a Major League ballpark, and the conversation changes dramatically. During this week’s GOP debate, the discussion focused on H1-B visas.” After playing clips of GOP presidential candidates Donald Trump and Florida Senator Marco Rubio talking about H-1B visas, and saying they want skilled people, Harris-Perry stated, “It comes down to a kind of foreign-born respectability politics. The ones we want, and those we don’t. And although, I got to say, maybe we don’t even know what we really want and need. Because immigrants make up nearly 50% of workers in private households, and nearly a fifth in construction, food services and agriculture. Immigrant labor is the foundation of the American economy, but
