At least 2.5 million pilgrims from around the world attended mass with Pope Francis on Sunday on the final day of a global Catholic youth festival in Poland, organisers said. “We estimate between 2.5 and 3.0 million people,” 2016 World Youth Day spokesperson Anna Chmura told AFP of the numbers attending the event near the southern city of Krakow. Sky News reports: More than 1.5 million pilgrims have gathered in a vast meadow near Krakow for mass with Pope Francis. Hundreds of thousands of people camped out overnight in the field 13 miles from the Polish city ahead of the World Youth Day event. They turned up at the site the night before with folding chairs, sleeping bags, umbrellas and sun-hats. Francis waved to the crowds as he toured the site in his popemobile at the start of a ceremony on Sunday morning. Police said “over 1.5 million” people attended the event. On his way to the site, the Pope made a stop to bless two buildings run by the Catholic charity Caritas – one was built as a day centre for the elderly and the other is a storehouse for food for the needy. As he left the storehouse, he

France Has 5 Million Muslims And Only A Few Hundred Attended ‘Solidarity’ Mass After Nice Attack

Despite France’s huge Muslim population of around five million, just a few hundred turned up in churches around France to show “solidarity” during mass  following the brutal jihadist murder of a priest in Nice. Agence France-Presse reported on Sunday that “[m]ore than 100 Muslims were among the 2,000 faithful who packed the 11th-century Gothic cathedral of Rouen near the Normandy town where two jihadi teenagers slit the throat of 85-year-old Father Jacques Hamel”. The news organisation quoted Rouen Archbishop Dominique Lebrun who said: “I thank you in the name of all Christians… In this way you are affirming that you reject death and violence in the name of God.” And despite Nice’s top imam, Otman Aissaoui (often mis-written as Otaman Aissaoui), leading a delegation to a Catholic mass, the country-wide response from France’s Muslims can only be described as underwhelming. “Being united is a response to the act of horror and barbarism,” said Mr. Aissaoui, an imam who has genuinely spoken out against extremism in recent years. His mosque came under intense pressure from local nationalist group Nissa Rebela in 2011. The group is now ostensibly loosely affiliated to the Front National. The Notre Dame church in southwestern Bordeaux is also

sess
Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) said Republican presidential nominee “Donald Trump is right. We need to figure out a way to end this cycle of hostility,” with Russia because it is “putting this country at risk, costing us billions of dollars in defense and creating hostilities.” Partial transcript as follows: ACOSTA: And let me ask you about some comments that Donald Trump made last week in inviting the Russians to hack into Hillary Clinton’s emails, a comment that he later said he was being sarcastic about. He did later say that he did not have any business dealings with the Russians. Let me put this up on screen. It says in this tweet, “For the record I have zero investments in Russia.” He was saying that in reaction to Democrats who are suggesting that perhaps he’s taking a soft approach on Russia because he has business dealings there. But according to the “Washington Post” center there is strong evidence that Trump received significant funding through his businesses from those Russian investors. What can you tell us about these investments? What are you aware of? Is he coming clean on this? SESSIONS: What I want

Texas Cop Pauses for Tea Time on Anniversary of Saving Little Girl’s Life

Rowlett Police Officer - Tea Time
A Rowlett, Texas, police officer paused for “Tea Time” with a two-year-old little girl to mark the one-year anniversary of his heroic actions that saved her life.
