With just three weeks before the first round of France’s presidential election, right wing candidate Marine Le Pen is working to galvanize voters with the anti-Islam rhetoric that is one of her trademarks.

Italy Brokers Deal Between Dozens of Rival Libyan Tribes To Stem Migrant Crisis
ROME (AFP) – The Italian government said Sunday that dozens of rival tribes in southern Libya had agreed to cooperate on securing the country’s borders in an effort to curb the influx of migrants trying to reach Europe. Italy’s interior ministry said the 60 tribal leaders — notably the Tuareg of the southwest, the Toubou of the southeast, and the Arab tribe of Awlad Suleiman — had reached the 12-point deal after 72 hours of secret talks in Rome. A representative from Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord, which is based in Tripoli and controls western Libya, was also present. “A Libyan border patrol unit will be operational to monitor Libya’s southern border of 5,000 kilometres (3,100 miles),” Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti told Italy’s La Stampa newspaper, one of several Italian media outlets reporting on the deal Sunday. “Securing Libya’s southern border means securing Europe’s southern border,” Minniti said. Southern Libya is criss-crossed by smuggling routes for people, drugs and weapons. Since the 2011 uprising that ousted Moamer Kadhafi, a mosaic of tribal and ethnic forces is fighting for control of illicit trade and oil fields in the region. Tuaregs control the border with southern Algeria, while further east, the Toubou
Spain Urges EU To Take Their Side Over Gibraltar Dispute Post Brexit
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spain’s top diplomat said Sunday that his government is urging the European Union to side with Madrid on the future of the British territory of Gibraltar, which lies at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula and Spain has long sought to reclaim. Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis told Spanish newspaper El Pais that Madrid insists it should get a veto over any agreements regarding the strategic enclave as Britain prepares to leave the EU. “We have spoken to our fellow (EU) members and institutions in recent weeks and have made clear Spain’s position: when the U.K. leaves the EU, the member nation of the EU is Spain, and in the case of Gibraltar the EU is therefore obligated to side with Spain,” Dastis said. Brussels suggested last week that it was prepared to give Spain such a veto, angering and upsetting people in Gibraltar. Spain has long sought to regain control of the strategic territory that it has longed to reclaim since ceding its control to Britain in 1713. British Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday offered reassurances to Gibraltar that the UK remains steadfastly committed to the overseas territory and its 32,000 residents. May’s
Gatestone Institute: 423 New Mosques, 500 Closed Churches in London
The Gatestone Institute reports Sunday on the striking rate of closures of churches in the United Kingdom’s capital city, a trend mirrored elsewhere in Europe, and the blooming number of mosques that have been established in their stead. Reporting on the change in religious observation in London, the Gatestone Institute writes: “London is more Islamic than many Muslim countries put together”, according to Maulana Syed Raza Rizvi, one of the Islamic preachers who now lead “Londonistan”, as the journalist Melanie Phillips has called the English capital. No, Rizvi is not a right-wing extremist. Wole Soyinka, a Nobel Laureate for Literature, was less generous; he called the UK “a cesspit for Islamists”. “Terrorists can not stand London multiculturalism”, London’s mayor Sadiq Khan said after the recent deadly terror attack at Westminster. The opposite is true: British multiculturalists are feeding Islamic fundamentalism. Above all, Londonistan, with its new 423 mosques, is built on the sad ruins of English Christianity. The Hyatt United Church was bought by the Egyptian community to be converted to a mosque. St Peter’s Church has been converted into the Madina Mosque. The Brick Lane Mosque was built on a former Methodist church. Not only buildings are converted, but also
18 Injured As Petrol-Soaked Bonfire Effigy Explodes at French Carnival
BOBIGNY (FRANCE) (AFP) – Eighteen people were hurt, five of them seriously, when a bonfire effigy blew up at a carnival north of Paris on Saturday, emergency workers said. The blast happened when organisers set fire to a wooden figure during a carnival at Villepinte after a traditional parade by local children. None of the 18 suffered life-threatening injuries. Three were children. Police said the effigy of a man, made out of plywood, was ignited by petrol using remote control. The blast showered parts of the crowd with sparks and wooden splinters, which led to the injuries, and caused a momentary panic. An inquiry has been opened.

Leader of German Populist, Anti Mass Migration Party Frauke Petry To Step Down
BERLIN (AFP) – The public face of the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Frauke Petry, said Thursday she is considering stepping down amid a poll slump and bitter infighting. “Neither politics nor the AfD are without alternative for me,” Petry, 41, told the Berlin daily Tagesspiegel. “It’s a good idea to reassess your own life from time to time and to readjust it,” she added. “That’s what I’m doing now, after more than four years in the AfD which have required an enormous effort and meant saying goodbye to a normal life,” said Petry, who is currently pregnant with her fifth child. Petry joined the AFD shortly after its founding in 2013 and later led a coup against the eurosceptic economics professor who founded it, Bernd Lucke, to take the party further to the right. The small protest party surfed a wave of angst and anger over Germany’s mass refugee and migrant influx that peaked in 2015 but has recently slipped in opinion polls into single digits as arrivals have dropped sharply. Petry sparked outrage during the crisis when she suggested that as a last resort, guards should be allowed to open fire at migrants streaming into Germany. She has
