A lifelong musician, Carol lost her insurance upon retirement. But she was able to sign up for Medicare at age 65.
In December 2013, she was diagnosed with leukemia and completely shocked. But thanks to Medicare, she was in the hospital within a day, receiving great treatment. Her first hospital bill was also a shock, but Medicare paid for it.
She was in the hospital for more than two months, but never had any difficulty with Medicare.
“When I saw my first hospital bill, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. It was more than the value of my house! Thanks to Medicare, the bills have been very small, and totally manageable.”
