Hillary for America Senior Spokesperson Karen Finney refused to denounce comments by Gloria Steinem and former Secretary of State Madeline Albright about women who don’t support Hillary Clinton on Monday’s “CNN Newsroom.” Finney said, “[B]oth of these women have been first in their careers, and obviously they have strong feelings. I’ve heard former secretary Albright talk about that a number of times before. They have very strong feelings about it, but i just want you to point out, I mean, these are two women, obviously they’re supporting hillary, but we are not accountable — we can’t control what they say, obviously.” Anchor Carol Costello cut in, “But you can disavow what they say Karen, you can disavow what they say, because they seem to be pitting the older generation of women against the younger, and that’s never a good thing, frankly.” Finney responded that she would like fellow candidate Senator Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) campaign to disavow comments by former NAACP head Ben Jealous about Clinton’s criminal justice record.
