Following Patrick Murphy’s claim Hillary Clinton is 100% trustworthy, the Rubio campaign released the following statement:
“Patrick Murphy has been caught lying to Floridians so many times that he doesn’t even know what the truth sounds like anymore. Murphy’s belief that Hillary Clinton is 100% trustworthy puts him at odds with the vast majority of Americans, not to mention the The New York Times editorial page. Floridians can’t afford a politician who would be a rubber stamp for someone Americans already know they can’t trust.” – Michael Ahrens, Rubio spokesman
VIDEO: When asked if he trusts Hillary Clinton “100 percent,” Murphy responded, “Yes, yes I do.” RUBIO: “How can Patrick Murphy support Hillary Clinton? How can he stand with Hillary Clinton when over and over again she’s proven herself to be untrustworthy.” RAJU: “Murphy, who is facing progressive firebrand Alan Grayson in today’s primary, says he trusts Hillary Clinton, despite polls that say most voters feel the opposite.” RAJU to MURPHY: “Do you trust Hillary Clinton? Do you 100% trust her? MURPHY: “Yes, yes I do.” RAJU to MURPHY: “What issues do you actually disagree with her on?” MURPHY: “Yes, well, you know, look — her support of the Iraq war, early on.” (CNN, 8/30/16)
Murphy previously told The Miami Herald “without hesitation” that he thinks Hillary Clinton is trustworthy. “U.S. Senate hopeful Patrick Murphy did not waffle when asked if he thinks Hillary Clinton is trustworthy. ‘Yes,’ he told a Miami Herald reporter without hesitation at a South Miami campaign stop Tuesday evening.” (Alex Daugherty, “Is Hillary Clinton Trustworthy? ‘Yes,’ Patrick Murphy Says Without Hesitation,” Tampa Bay Times, 8/16/16)
But an overwhelming majority of Americans disagree with Murphy
Roll Call headline: “Clinton’s Trustworthiness Remains A Drag On Her Campaign” (Jeremy Silk Smith, “Clinton’s Trustworthiness Remains A Drag On Her Campaign,” Roll Call, 8/11/16)
An August 2016 Quinnipiac University poll found that 66 percent of voters say Hillary Clinton is not honest. “By a huge 66 – 29 percent margin, voters say Clinton is not honest.” (“Clinton Tops 50 Percent, Leads Trump By 10 Points, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds,” Quinnipiac University, 8/25/16)
An August 2016 Washington Post/ABC News survey found that 59 percent said Clinton is not honest and trustworthy. “Last week’s Washington Post/ABC News survey gave Clinton an 8 percentage point lead over Trump. Her untrustworthiness numbers are still high: 59 percent said Clinton is not honest and trustworthy and about two-thirds said she is too willing to bend the rules.” (Jeremy Silk Smith, “Clinton’s Trustworthiness Remains A Drag On Her Campaign,” Roll Call, 8/11/16)
- Clinton’s trustworthiness rating has not come close to 50 percent since news first broke in March 2015 that she used a private server to receive emails while serving as Secretary of State. “Clinton’s rating on trustworthiness has not come close to 50 percent since the news first broke in March 2015 that she had used a private server to receive emails while serving as secretary of State, according to a CNN/ORC survey that went through some of her polling history.” (Jeremy Silk Smith, “Clinton’s Trustworthiness Remains A Drag On Her Campaign,” Roll Call, 8/11/16)
A July 2016 poll from CBS/The New York Times, 67 percent of voters said that Hillary Clinton is not honest and trustworthy. “Sixty-seven percent of voters now say Clinton is not honest and trustworthy, up from 62 percent last month and the highest percentage this election cycle. Only 28 percent view her as honest.” (Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus, And Anthony Salvanto, “Hillary Clinton And Donald Trump Tied Going Into Conventions – CBS/NYT Poll,” CBS News, 7/14/16)
Even The New York Times editorial board has called Clinton’s trustworthiness into question
The New York Times: “…The inspector general’s report is certain to fuel doubts about Mrs. Clinton’s trustworthiness, lately measured as a significant problem for her in public polls.” “So far, no security breaches have been reported; a separate F.B.I. investigation is looking into that. But above and beyond security questions, the inspector general’s report is certain to fuel doubts about Mrs. Clinton’s trustworthiness, lately measured as a significant problem for her in public polls.” (Editorial Board, “Hillary Clinton, Drowning In Email,” The New York Times, 5/26/16)
