DNC Hispanic Chair: The $700 Billion Isn’t "Necessary Or Essential" In Medicare Budget

Host, "Face to Face": "You well know that those savings which are supposed to come from the Independent Payment Advisory Board, which is controversial in and of itself, are speculative savings. They don't know that they are going to find that. Why can't everybody get on the same page and say, 'We're not cutting anything, we're slowing the growth.' It's just a question of how you're going to slow the growth, Mr. Ramirez." Andres Ramirez, DNC Hispanic Caucus, vice chair: "Well, I think what everyone is on the same page, including Mr. Ryan's budget, is that that figure, $700 billion, is being built into both budgets to allocate for future projections. So whether you count them as savings or whether you cross them out any other way, both campaigns are consistent that that money in and of itself is not necessary or essential in the Medicare budget."
