All Clear: U.S. Capitol Lockdown Lifted

Scaffolding still wraps around the Senate and the Capitol Dome as part of a long-term repair project, but some of it has been removed from the very top of the structure around the Statue of Freedom, in Washington, Wednesday, March 9, 2016. The rest of the work, including restoration to the interior of the rotunda, will be completed before the 2017 presidential inauguration. (
“The United States Capitol was placed under a lockdown on Friday morning, possibly due to a gun on the campus,” The Hill reported. “Rep. Dennis Ross (R-Fla.) told The Hill that a staffer was seen in the building with a firearm. A second lawmaker added the firearm made it past security, where metal detectors and police officers routinely screen anyone coming in to the Capitol or the handful of connected office buildings.”
