After the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) sent out a series of angry tweets during the Super Bowl, attacking with special animus a Doritos commercial for “humanizing the fetus,” the abortion group received a taste of its own medicine as a flurry of tweets on the group’s own account taunted NARAL while defending Frito-Lay. The offending Doritos ad in question featured a pregnant woman and her husband in a hospital room as a kindly female doctor conducts an ultrasound. The trouble starts when the doctor smiles and says: “And there’s your beautiful baby,” forgetting that the NARAL-approved language is “fetus” and not “baby.” The commercial proceeds to show the baby in the ultrasound reacting to the movement of a Doritos chip by moving its body in response to movement of the chip. The mother finally throws the chip away, at which point the baby exits the womb in pursuit as everybody shrieks. All of this was too much for NARAL to take, and the group sent out an irate tweet accusing Frito-Lay of employing an “antichoice” tactic of “humanizing fetuses.” #NotBuyingIt – that @Doritos ad using #antichoice tactic of humanizing fetuses & sexist tropes of dads as clueless &
