Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said of the rivalry between himself and GOP front-runner Donald Trump, “I don’t intend to insult Donald Trump. I’m not going to engage in personal attacks.” Partial transcript as follows: TAPPER: It’s gotten heated between you and the front-runner, Donald Trump, in recent weeks. And you have expressed your concerns about him. I know that you — he attacked you first, for the record. But you have since counter punched and talked about your concerns. In retrospect, should you have made your concerns about his, in your view, New York values, his support for partial-birth abortion and more, earlier, do you think? CRUZ: Yes, well, listen, there’s a phase to any campaign. You know, a month ago, Donald was telling everyone how much he liked me and how much I was his friend. And then his poll numbers started falling, and ours started rising. And now I wake up every day and look at my phone and discover what new insult he has launched out. TAPPER: There have been a lot. CRUZ: And they’re always interesting. I will give him credit that, when he insults someone,

Hillary Dodges When Asked of Her Knowledge of the ‘Ways of Washington’
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” while discussing the FBI investigation into her handling of classified material on her private email server during her tenure as secretary of state, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton implied she is not well versed in “the ways of Washington,” saying “others who are quite experienced in the ways of Washington” Host George Stephanopoulos said, “Your supporters including Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, former governor of Iowa, and Senator Feinstein herself, has suggested it’s political. Is that what you think?” Clinton said, “Well, it’s — I’m going to leave that to others who are quite experienced in the ways of Washington to comment on. I just have to point out that the timing and some of the leaks that have led up to it are concerning. And I just want this matter resolved.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN

Rubio: Cruz ‘Front-Runner’ in Iowa; Looking Ahead to New Hampshire
Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Republican presidential candidate Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) attempted to lower expectations for his campaign in the Iowa caucus tomorrow by pointing to his opponent Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) ground game in saying, “Ted Cruz is clearly the front-runner going into tomorrow night. He has 10,000 volunteers on the ground,” Partial transcript as follows: JOHN DICKERSON, CBS HOST: Senator, there is a lot of chatter that you may be getting a lot of the last-minute votes going your way. How does it feel? SEN. MARCO RUBIO (R-FL), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Well, we have always felt great about our campaign here. And we continue to feel that it is growing in our support. We will see what it leads to on Monday night. I mean, Ted Cruz is clearly the front-runner going into the night. He has 10,000 volunteers on the ground. He has spent an exorbitant amount of time here, tremendous amount of time here, and has gotten every endorsement he wanted. So, we know it is a tough hill to climb, but we feel very good about our campaign and very positive about what it means going into New Hampshire. We will be leaving as
Sanders: ‘If We Run Against Trump, We’ll Beat Him’
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sander (I-VT) said, “If we run against Trump, we’ll beat him. I am absolutely confident that we can win the general election.” Partial transcript as follows: STEPHANOPOULOS: ‘Well, that’s the other key question, can you win the general election? And you heard what Secretary Clinton had to say about those other Democrats who are concerned that you, a democratic socialist, you’re going to get slapped with that label, you’re not going to be able to win in a general election.” SANDERS: “Well, look, in terms of what people are going to get slapped with, look at the front pages today in terms of what Secretary Clinton is getting slapped with.” STEPHANOPOULOS: “What is it?” SANDERS: “But here is the point. Well, you — you know, you know as well as I do, it has to do with emails. But what is more important is that our campaign is generating an enormous amount of excitement and enthusiasm all over this country. We are bringing large numbers of people into the political process. Democrats win elections when large numbers of people come out and vote. That’s what Obama did in 2008. That’s
Austria Will Pay Migrants €500 Each To Go Home, Wants Citizen Militia to Patrol Border
Migrants who find Europe not to be the land of milk and honey they expected will be able to receive repatriation assistance from the Austrian government from this year. The development is part of a package of changes which the government in Vienna hopes will help them hit a new target of 50,00 migrants leaving the country by 2019. While the announcment has been reported sensationally as 50,000 deportations, it seems many of the newly arrived migrants will go voluntarily, with a bumper load of government pocket money to see them on their way. The full €500 will only be available if the migrant makes the decision to go quickly, and before the government rules on their asylum case. The government will also place adverts in media in migrant-origin countires and on social media in migrant languages telling them to stay at home, reports Kronen Zeitung. The rising pace of removals is a step-change for Austria, but not an entirely new policy. Interior minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said Austria already had one of the highest levels for deportations in Europe, but “we will further increase out success rate”. Austria deported 8,365 in 2015, a number that will rise to 12,500 in 2016 to
The Independent: Trump ‘No Laughing Matter’ Because Breitbart Readers are Racists
From an Independent article entitled: We thought Trump was the comic relief. Who’s laughing now? What is your capacity for the cold, hard truth? If you went to the doctor with a scary symptom, would you prefer to hear: a) “I’m not going to lie to you, it may be something nasty”, so that if the test results came back positive a week later, you’d be cushioned against the shock? Or b) “I’m quite sure it’s absolutely nothing, but we might as well check it out to be safe”), giving you another seven days of relative peace? If your choice is b), I must instruct you to leave this column immediately and find something less distressing to read. But if a) is your bag… Look, I’m not going to lie to you. A week from now there’s every chance that we will be talking about Donald Trump as a plausible presidential contender. … If Trump wins the Iowa caucuses next Monday, as the betting markets deem twice as likely as not, the conventional wisdom dismissing the prospect of President Trump as too absurd to contemplate will be redundant. He will not only be odds-on for the Republican nomination. He will be a short-priced second
