During MSNBC’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, host Rachel Maddow stated that she found the top part of former President Bill Clinton’s speech to the DNC “shocking and rude.” Maddow began by giving the end of the speech an A+, but then said, “I think the beginning of the speech was a controversial way to start, honestly, talking about the girl, a girl, leading with this long story about him being attracted to an unnamed girl and thinking about whether he was starting something he couldn’t finish, building her whole political story, for the whole first half of the speech around her marriage to him. I think, unless there were worries that this is going to be too feminist a convention, that was not a feminist way to start. But the end of the speech was really good. I’ve got to say, the top of the speech I found shocking and rude.” (h/t NTK Network) Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

Madeleine Albright: Trump Damaged National Security ‘Just By Running for President’
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright prepared the stage at the Democratic National Convention for her former boss, Bill Clinton, by painting a dystopian picture of the future of America under a President Donald Trump, arguing that Trump would not only harm the nation’s security as president, but that he somehow already had. Albright, who served as American ambassador to the United Nations during the Rwandan genocide and Secretary of State during the 1998 Al Qaeda U.S. embassy bombings, argued that the Republican presidential nominee had “already done damage” to American foreign policy “just by running for president,” accusing him of “undermining our Muslim allies” in the war on terrorism and “encouraging more countries to get nuclear weapons.” Albright also accused Trump of having “a strange admiration for dictators,” arguing that defeating Trump would be akin to defeating Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Putin is eager to see Trump win, and that should worry every American,” she told the audience, “Take it from someone who fled the Iron Curtain – I know what happens when you give the Russians a green light.” Hillary Clinton, Albright argued, had instead “fought terrorism” and” stopped the spread of nuclear weapons.” Among other notable moments in Clinton’s
Axelrod: DNC ‘Missed Opportunity’ For ‘Healing Moment’ By Not Having Families of Slain Police Officers Speak
During CNN’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, CNN Senior Political Commentator and former Senior Adviser to President Obama David Axelrod argued that there could have been “a healing moment” at the DNC if the families of slain cops had been onstage with the “Mothers of the Movement,” some of whom have lost children to police shootings. Axelrod agreed with fellow panelist and CNN host Michael Smerconish’s argument that the families of slain police officers should have been invited to the DNC as well, and that concern for the victims of police shootings and slain police officers shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. Axelrod continued, “I think this was a missed opportunity.” He added, “[T]he families of police officers grieve for their losses as well, and it would have been a healing moment to get everyone on the same stage to say, we have to stop the violence. Stop the violence.” (h/t Mediaite) Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

MSNBC’s Ruhle to Sanders Delegates: Wasn’t Booing During Invocation ‘Pretty Disrespectful?’
During MSNBC’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle questioned two Bernie Sanders delegates on the booing during the DNC’s invocation on day one of the convention. After asking on whether the protests for Sanders would continue on day 2 of the convention, Ruhle asked if disrupting the opening prayer was “pretty disrespectful?” Jason Brown, one of the delegates, responded that having the prayer have an endorsement for Clinton was disrespectful. After Ruhle countered that Clinton is the nominee, Brown said, “But technically not yet.” Ruhle then stated it was mathematically impossible for Sanders to get the nomination, and asked why they were still bothering with protesting. Ruhle did conclude the interview by saying that she admired the delegates’ passion. (h/t Mediaite) Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett
