Guardian Publishes Anonymous Source Claim that Brexit Leader Farage is ‘Person of Interest’ to FBI-Russia Investigation
The left-leaning, anti-Brexit, anti-Trump British newspaper the Guardian has published anonymous source claims that Brexit leader Nigel Farage is a “person of interest” in an FBI investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Despite stating in their fourth paragraph that the former UKIP chief Nigel Farage “has not been accused of wrongdoing and is not a suspect or a target of the U.S. investigation”, authors Stephanie Kirchgaessner, Nick Hopkins, and Luke Harding composed 2000 words claiming “sources” told them about the FBI’s interest in Mr. Farage. Not naming sources, or even who or where they work, the Guardian reports the British MEP is a “person of interest” to the FBI – if only because he has met several members of the President’s administration and sought to interview Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in his capacity as an LBC radio presenter. The Guardian quotes anonymous informants — though it is not clear if there is more than one — as embellishing these links to present Farage as a Moriarty-like figure, describing how, “If you triangulate Russia, WikiLeaks, Assange and Trump associates the person who comes up with the most hits is Nigel Farage. “He’s right in the middle of these relationships. He turns up
UN Migration Agency Says People-Smugglers Making $35 Billion from Migrant Trade
Criminal people-smugglers are generating around 35 billion USD in revenue from the migrant trade, according to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). Lacy Swing, who heads the United Nations agency, estimated that around 1,700 migrants have died while in the care of people-smugglers this year. Around 5,000 died in 2016, and 3,700 in 2015, suggesting a worrying upward trend. Swing cautioned that we should be “careful” when considering these figures, however, “because those are the people we know who died, how many other bodies are submerged in the Mediterranean or buried in the sands of the Sahara?” He added: “That’s the tragedy and this is why we are so concerned to try to caution migrants about smugglers. The smugglers are really the big problem. It’s about $35 billion a year (that people smugglers make) and we know they’re making lots of money across the Mediterranean.” People smugglers make about USD 35 billion a year worldwide- @IOMchief https://t.co/GjNrsaa9Qs pic.twitter.com/B8Qe9JAPTH — IOM (@UNmigration) June 1, 2017 Swing claimed the migrant crisis was being exacerbated by “unprecedented anti-migrant sentiment,” although he did not appear to offer any explanation as to how this alleged sentiment would contribute to the issue. He said anti-migrant feeling
