In a Monday appearance on ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” “First Take” co-host Stephen A. Smith weighed in on the chance quarterback Colin Kaepernick has to play in the NFL this year, saying he believes there will be an “uproar” or an “uprising” that will make the NFL feel “compelled” to make sure Kaepernick has a job in the league. “I will say to you, I believe there’s going to be an uproar, an uprising to some degree, and I think the NFL is going to feel compelled to make sure this man has a job,” Smith said of Kaepernick. “[Y]ou’re going to see an uproar and potentially an uprising,” he continued. “That’s not something that the NFL is going to want. That’s not going to be good for business. And I think ultimately, somebody’s going to capitulate. It’s going to be similar to what happened with Michael Sam, as far as I’m concerned.” Follow Trent Baker on Twitter @MagnifiTrent

Rahm Emanuel: Trump Justice Department Is Undermining Chicago’s ‘Public Safety’
Monday on CNN’s “Newsroom,” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel defended his lawsuit against the Department of Justice over Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ plan to withhold some federal grants from police in sanctuary cities. Emanuel said the move by the Trump Justice Department hurts community policing which “undermines our actual public safety agenda.” Emanuel said, “We’re a welcoming city and always will be. In addition to that, our police department is built on the principles of community policing. We don’t want officers just patrolling a neighborhood, but to be part of that neighborhood and the fabric. And the fact is, by forcing us or the police department to choose between the values of the city and the philosophy of the police department of community policing, I think it’s a false choice, and it actually undermines our actual public safety agenda. And so we’re going to be filing a case, saying that the Justice Department is wrong, both on constitutional legal grounds—That is, we will always be a welcoming city. It’s true to our history and true to our future.” “But it’s also true as a police department,” he continued. “Our police department are part of a neighborhood, part of a community that
FS1’s Sharpe: Dolphins Signing Cutler Over Kaepernick ‘Embarrassing,’ a ‘Bad Move’
Monday on Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed,” Shannon Sharpe reacted to free agent quarterback Jay Cutler reuniting with his former offensive coordinator Adam Gase in Miami to replace injured starter Ryan Tannehill. “It’s a bad move,” said Sharpe. “It’s embarrassing, quite frankly.” Sharpe added that ever since Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers and he has been looking for a job, the hesitancy to sign him has been more about something other than his ability to play. “[I]n 11 years, Jay Cutler has only directed one top 15 scoring offense in 11 years. … But now he’s the answer, a guy that’s not a leader, a guy that’s injury prone, a guy that’s turnover prone and he’s a better fit than Colin Kaepernick — not because of ability but you know what it’s because. Skip, this is embarrassing,” he told co-host Skip Bayless. Follow Trent Baker on Twitter @MagnifiTrent
