Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) responded to conservative talker a tweet from Laura Ingraham questioning whether or not the North Carolina Republican was aware there were three branches of government. I’m a member of the Senate. My job is to assert the authority of the Congress as a coequal branch. So for that particular person, they may want to go back and study up on civics 101.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN

Conway: Those Pushing ‘Phony, Fabricated Russia Investigation’ Are ‘Cheating’ Trump Voters
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” White House spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway said special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s meddling during the 2016 election was “cheating” the voters, adding that they wanted “a new and different direction.” Conway said, “Well, why are we engaging in hypotheticals. The entire Russia investigation is a hypothetical. The president has called it a fiction, a total fabrication to excuse the colossal and unexpected, unwanted defeat of Hillary Clinton in last year’s election. People just can’t get over that election, George. It’s corrosive to our body politic. The president is going to continue to talk about America, and I suppose others, sadly, will continue to talk about Russia.” She added, “And let me just say something else about Russia, the president took on a new tact in West Virginia speaking about this the other night, he told the people there and around the country that those who are pushing this phony, fabricated Russia investigation are cheating you, the voters, out of what you clearly said you want. You want a new and different direction. You don’t want the same failed policies. You want free markets, you want democracy, you want national security, American exceptionalism, prosperity at

Rod Rosenstein: Impaneling Grand Jury ‘Doesn’t Say Anything About the Likelihood of Indictments’
On this weekend’s broadcast on “Fox News Sunday,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said special counsel Robert Mueller impaneling a grand jury does not say anything about the possibility of indictments in the investigation into Russia’s meddling during the 2016 election. Rosenstein said, “In general, Chris, it doesn’t say anything about the likelihood of indictments because we conduct investigations and we make a determination at some point in the course of the investigation about whether charges are appropriate.” He added,”Many of our investigations involve the use of a grand jury. It’s an appropriate way to gather documents, sometimes you bring witnesses in to make sure that you get their full testimony. It’s just a tool that we use like any other tool in the course of our investigations.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN
CA Gov Brown: Voters ‘Definitely’ Swinging Back ‘Toward a Non-Republican Kind of Future’
Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gov. Jerry Brown (D-CA) said voters were “definitely already swinging back toward a non-Republican kind of future.” Brown said the Democrats had lost recently for a “Number of factors. Certainly, the Republicans had something to do with it. The barrage, the relentless drum beat of opposition that has been well-financed by the Koch brothers, by Republican activists, that’s been relentless. I think the Affordable Care Act was stigmatized. It was very large; it was very new, that became a big problem.” “And I also think just the historic turn when Lyndon Johnson won overwhelmingly to Goldwater people were writing, and I read it at the time, that the Republican Party was gone,” he continued. “And then it comes back, and the Democratic Party comes back. So the nature of our business is that swing of the pendulum, and it’s definitely already swinging back toward a non-Republican kind of future.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN
GOP Sen Flake: I’ll ‘Stand Up Against’ Trump’s Immigration Legislation
Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) said he would “stand up” against the immigration bill endorsed by President Donald Trump. Flake said, “The immigration proposal that was put forward last week. I think it’s fine to move to a points system, we did that in the bipartisan bill in the Senate, but you can’t cut immigration, legal immigration in half. And so I’ll stand up against that. And the behavior in the White House as well. I mean, referring to our colleagues across the aisle as losers or clowns is just not the direction to go if we are going to solve the problems in a conservative way that we need to. So I’ll stand up every time to the president when he’s doing things that I don’t think he should be doing.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN
