Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) said while he believes President Donald Trump’s heart was “in the right place” on race, he argued there was “more that all of us as leaders have got to do to be inclusive with people.” Partial transcript as follows: JOHN DICKERSON: A year ago we talked about race relations in the country and– and you said you hoped candidate — then-candidate Trump would be inclusive. You said, “He’s new at this.” It’s been a year now. How would you rate his ability to bring this country together, which has clearly– an issue– PAUL RYAN: Well, like I said on the Charlottesville thing, it was– there were like, three comments. One of them was great, two of them– no, four comments, I think. Two good. Two bad. You know? I think, like you say like I said before, he’s learning. I know his heart’s in the right place. And– DICKERSON: How do you know that? RYAN: Just– I’ve had some candid conversations with him about this. Especially during that time. I’ve had some very candid conversations. And so I do really believe his heart’s in the right place.

During an interview on CBS’s “Face The Nation,” Sen. What do you make of that? MARCO RUBIO: I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it to be honest with you because right now, having lived through four hurricanes, nothing like what Puerto Rico’s facing, you know, our desire is to be a voice and a force for positive results, helping people. I truly believe that if we don’t get ahead of the curve there bad things are going to happen. Some have already happened, unfortunately. Because storms are terrible things. Especially in an area like Puerto Rico where people have been without electricity- DICKERSON: But– RUBIO: -now for over a week. A food issue, et cetera. Partial transcript as follows: TODD: You said something about the president right after Charlottesville, you were — you questioned whether there was a competency and a stability of the office of the presidency at that time. Do you still feel that way? CORKER: I’m not trying to be critical, but some of the words have been left out. What I said is he has not yet demonstrated some of the competence and some of the stability that might have been reversed, but not yet demonstrated, and we need for him to be successful. I mean, the country needs — the world needs for him to be successful. Look, I stand by those comments and, you know — TODD: You stand by them today? Meaning you still feel this way? CORKER: Look, I think that General Kelly has brought in an heir of discipline as far as how the White House operates. I think they did a great job with Texas and Florida during the hurricane,
