In this week’s Democratic address, Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) decried gun violence, calling it a “daily epidemic.” Transcript as follows: Hello. I’m Congressman John Lewis, and I represent the 5th District of Georgia. On Monday, our nation woke up to the news of the worst mass shooting in our history. At least 58 people were killed. Over 500 were injured. All because an evil, disturbed man was able to get his hands on a dozen deadly weapons and turn them on a crowd of innocents. When I think of Las Vegas – when I think of Newtown and Charleston, and Orlando and Aurora – my heart breaks. Gun violence is a daily epidemic – a daily drumbeat of tragedy in families and communities across America. Not always on the front pages, but always someone irreplaceable and beloved. 90 Americans are killed every day. Every year, we lose more than 30,000 men, women and children to gun violence. What will it take for the Republican Congress to wake up? They hold moments of silence and vigils; they offer thoughts and prayers. But they do nothing. Trump Reflects on Las Vegas Shooting in Weekly Address
In his weekly radio address, President Donald Trump offered thoughts on those impacted by last weekend’s mass shooting in Las Vegas. Transcript as follows: My fellow Americans, On Wednesday, I traveled to Las Vegas to visit with the victims of the horrific shooting, speak with their families, and thank the brave citizens, first responders and medical personnel who saved so many lives. We struggle to grasp the evil that occurred on Sunday evening when a murderer shot into a crowd of more than 20,000 people. Men, women, and children were gathered to enjoy a concert. They never imagined it would become the worst day of their lives. But in the wake of such shock and horror, it was a matter of seconds before the goodness of the human spirit broke through. When the shooting began, a mother laid on top of her daughter to shield her from gunfire. A husband died to protect his beloved wife. Strangers rescued strangers, police officers and first responders rushed into danger. When the worst of humanity strikes, the best of humanity responds. The men and women who risked their lives to save their fellow citizens give proof to the words of this Scripture: “The

Illinois High School Under Fire for American Flag Displayed on the Ground
An American flag display set up by staff at an Illinois high school stirred up controversy on social media. The display at York Community High School in Elmhurst, IL was a re-creation of artist Dread Scott’s “What is the Proper Way to Display a U.S. Flag?” from 1989 and was intended “to explore the complexities of the constitutionally protected right of free speech by examining real cases,” Principal Erin DeLuga said in a message to parents on the school’s Facebook page. The attempt at a lesson on the First Amendment backfired. Parents and students complained the display was in poor taste, some calling it “disrespectful” and a “disgrace” on the school’s Facebook page. DeLuga also wrote, “Our staff and students will learn from this week’s lesson, and we will make changes to this forum in the future to ensure we do not disrespect our flag.” Follow Breitbart.tv on Twitter @BreitbartVideo
Florida First Grader Punished for Kneeling During Pledge of Allegiance
A six-year-old out of Pasco County, FL followed what he saw in the NFL over the weekend by kneeling during the Pledge of Allegiance, and his mother is now upset that he was forced to stand. While a few players in the NFL have been taking a knee during the national anthem since Colin Kaepernick began doing it in 2016, many players around the league reacted Sunday to President Donald Trump’s criticism of the national anthem protests by showing solidarity and taking a knee as the anthem sounded. A first grader at Wiregrass Elementary School took a knee while holding his hand over his heart during the school’s Pledge of Allegiance and the teacher forced him to stand. His mother then received the following text from the teacher, via Fox 13: I just wanted to let you know that this morning when it was time to do the Pledge of Allegiance [your son[ went down on one knee. I know where he had seen it but I did tell him that in the classroom we are learning what it means to be a good citizen we’re learning about respecting the United States of America and our country symbols and showing loyalty and patriotism and
Rush: I Didn’t Watch the NFL for the First Time in 45 Years, ‘The Mystique Is Gone’
On Monday, radio host Rush Limbaugh said that he didn’t watch the NFL for the first time in 45 years on Sunday and that the NFL’s “mystique is gone.” Partial Transcript as Follows: “I was so sad Sunday morning when all of this started falling out. I was not sad after Friday night when the president made his comments. And I had no doubt afterward what the reaction was going to be and I had no doubt where public opinion was gonna fall. And I had no doubt how people in the NFL from players to the commissioner to media people were gonna get it wrong, and they have, and they did. But if you’ll permit me first, I was personally saddened. I did not watch the National Football League yesterday, and it was the first time in 45 years that I made an active decision not to watch, including my team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was not a decision made in anger. It was genuine sadness. I realized that I can no longer look at this game and watch this game and study this game and pretend, you know, fantasize, everything a fan does. This whole thing has removed

Christie: Bannon Was in the White House When Trump Got Bad Advice, We Shouldn’t Spend a Lot of Time Listening to Him
On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said, “Steve Bannon was also in the White House at the time that they gave the president all kinds of advice that turned out not to be that good. So, I don’t think we should be giving too much time listening to Steve Bannon.” Partial Transcript as Follows: MARTHA MACCALLUM: “And I know you’ve said recently you don’t care too much what Steve Bannon thinks. But he said that he thought it was the biggest mistake that the White House could have made, to let it go to the point where they have a special prosecutor now. The likelihood that this is going to hang over the administration throughout the course of the entire first term is very large, right?” CHRISTIE: “Sure. I mean, listen, I said at the time I was very reluctant to see a special prosecutor appointed. Because it becomes like a cottage industry, and they feel like they have to go and find something, even if what they initially looked into –. Remember, Bill Clinton didn’t meet Monica Lewinsky until 19 months after the special prosecutor was appointed. Didn’t meet her, until 19 months
