A wave of relief is rippling across the FreeBSD community today, as the open source project’s most notorious “contributor,” Randi Harper, announced she was leaving for good. Harper, who once went by the name “FreeBSDGirl” on Twitter, had been involved with FreeBSD for over 10 years – although her actual contributions are difficult to track down. But in a lengthy post on her blog, which reveals that her association with FreeBSD had become so toxic that the project asked her to change her Twitter username, Harper announced she was dissociating herself after 12 years. Harper frames her departure as her own decision, but she has of course been regarded by everyone associated with FreeBSD as a liability for some time. In her long-winded post (I read these things so you don’t have to), Harper unleashes a blistering array of bizarre allegations against the FreeBSD foundation, including a claim that they stood by while she was being threatened online, and that she was “tone policed” by someone at FreeBSD who suggested she “be nicer” online. No wonder that one stung her. Harper is one of the nastiest pieces of work on the internet. She is a self-proclaimed “anti-abuse activist” who has in fact spent most of the last

Coming 2016: All-Out War On So-Called ‘Social Justice’
In 2016, battle lines will be drawn. On one side, people of all colours, genders and orientations are rallying around the flag of freedom of speech. On the other, a nasty set of authoritarians are rallying around a flag that identifies as a flag only on Mondays, uses they/them pronouns and will try to get you fired or expelled from school if you forget it. Let me explain. In 2015, I saw the seeds of a movement begin to sprout. Across the internet, and even in fear-gripped halls on campuses, young people began to stand up and challenge the humourless, divisive, identity-obsessed elites that have taken over our cultural discourse. People of seemingly disparate interests and politics — gamers, pundits, metalheads, comic book and science fiction fans, atheists, Catholics, conservatives, libertarians and even many disaffected liberals — came together to agree on only one thing: art and culture should be left alone. That movement is called cultural libertarianism. It stands against any authoritarian, from the Right or the Left, who sucks fun and freedom from the world like some kind of vampire without the cool factor, and who uses faux grievances and exaggerated victimhood to get what they want. Cultural libertarianism rejects the fainting-couch
Read The Epic Social Justice Warrior Smackdown That Is Going Viral
I can’t help but share this amazing anonymous smackdown of the odious cult of social justice with readers. It’s currently doing the rounds on Twitter and reddit. If anyone knows the author, do get in touch… “We are fighting to end hate, to unite as one and love each other. We are fighting to be treated right without discrimination and for everyone to have equal opportunities.” Bullshit. You have no quantifiable metrics for injustice, so you have no victory conditions (for a very simplified example, when blacks hold X% of all engineering jobs and are only Y% of all prisoners, racism is ended). That would be fine by itself, but you believe in fighting injustice with injustice (gays have historically been denied gay marriage? let’s get random CEOs fired for opinions they held six years ago). You don’t seek converts, you seek to punish and bully – straight white males who disagree with you must be purged and publicly humiliated. Even the jihadists will spare you if you convert; no apology or future correction will satisfy a SJW. I could forgive that too if you weren’t all hypocrites and liars. Your treatment of women and minority dissenters is appalling; if
Why Equality And Diversity Departments Should Only Hire Rich, Straight White Men
It’s only people free of so-called oppression who can truly sort through the ever-more complex jungle of the progressive stack.
Fraidy-Cat Buzzfeed Reporter Joe Bernstein Won’t Debate His Lazy Smears Despite $6,500 Charity Offer
Last week, one of Buzzfeed’s four “senior technology reporters,” Joseph Bernstein, published a story about me and about the “nascent counterculture” everyone else already knows as cultural libertarianism but which is apparently new to Mr Bernstein and which he has re-christened “chanterculture.” As happens so often these days, I was spoken of in the same breath as Donald Trump. But the assumption — that an emerging free speech movement online, which occasionally produces uncomfortable results for progressives, is A Bad Thing — is wrong. Needless to say, despite prominently associating me in his story with what he calls racism and sexism, Bernstein never bothered to get in touch. In the spirit of Christmas, I waited until yesterday to politely challenge Mr Bernstein to a debate on the merits of what he calls “chanterculture.” I think cultural libertarianism and robust free speech is a force for good, you see, and a necessary reaction to the hand-wringing and language-policing that currently saturates the internet and the media. Having openly written in the pages of Buzzfeed that “the sincerity of Yiannopoulos… can and should be questioned,” Mr Bernstein’s dismissal of my request was surprising. It was also cowardly. Herewith, for the digestion of the
NYC Will Fine You $250,000 For ‘Misgendering’ A Transsexual
Did you call a transsexual person “he” or “she” when they preferred to be called “zhe?” According to a newly updated anti-discrimination law in New York City, you could be fined an eye-watering $250,000. In the latest, astonishing act of draconian political correctness, the NYC Commission on Human Rights have updated a law on “Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Expression” to threaten staggering financial penalties against property owners who “misgender” employees or tenants. Incidents that are deemed “wilful and malicious” will see property owners face up to $250,000 in fines, while standard violations of the law will result in a $125,000 fine. For small business owners, these sums are crippling. It’s not as simple as referring to transmen “he” or transwomen as “she,” either. The legislation makes it clear that if an individual desires, property owners will have to make use of “zhe,” “hir” and any other preferred pronoun. From the updated legislation: The NYCHRL requires employers and covered entities to use an individual’s preferred name, pronoun and title (e.g., Ms./Mrs.) regardless of the individual’s sex assigned at birth, anatomy, gender, medical history, appearance, or the sex indicated on the individual’s identification. Most individuals and many transgender people use female
Remember These Early-2000s Donald Trump ‘Video Ringtones’?
In ancient times, before smartphones, custom ringtones were all the rage. If you were particularly wealthy and successful and one of life’s winners, you could even purchase a custom video ringtone.
Scientists Who Are Actually Really Stupid: #1, Neil deGrasse Tyson
Neil deGrasse Tyson made the decision a long time ago to be a sort of media cheerleader for science instead of an actual scientist, and although he isn’t a great communicator, it was the right decision because he was unlikely ever to trouble the Nobel committee. Also, he is stupid and his politics are dumb. Tyson, whom liberals love because they are racists who can’t believe a black guy could be smart enough to be a scientist and so spontaneously ejaculate and soil themselves every time they see him on TV, hasn’t published anything of note for years. The advantage of being a celebrity scientist is that you don’t actually have to do any science. You’re exempted from the usual “publish or perish” rules. Even when he was making a go of being a proper academic, Tyson didn’t exactly have the most glittering record. He didn’t get the PhD he was studying for at the University of Texas and had to go elsewhere for his qualification. Obviously, rather than take responsibility for his academic performance, Tyson has blamed racism. In reality, Tyson was playing in bands and appearing on stage instead of completing essays. Typical science PhD students are at any given
Analysis: NPR Talks About Women’s Issues Five Times More Than Men’s
Analysis of over 150,000 NPR stories has shown a clear bias against men at the network, with stories about women’s issues covered far more frequently than men’s. Blogger Chris Mumford wrote a computer program that analysed hundreds of thousands of NPR’s story “tags” – the metadata associated with articles that tells you which category of news the story is covering. The results, which covered stories from 2010 to 2015, were shocking. Mumford found that there were only 45 tags related to men and men’s issues, compared to 115 for women and women’s issues. Furthermore, unlike the female tags, several of the male tags had negative connotations, including “black male privilege,” “yes men,” and the oddly specific “creepy men on motorcycles” tag. There was also a wide gap in how often articles about male issues appeared in NPR, compared to female issues. Mumford’s analysis found that there were 5 times as many articles about women and women’s issues as there were about men and men’s issues. That means that there are approximately 5 articles tagged as female for every 1 tagged as male. Now there’s a believable “1 in 5″ statistic! Appallingly, but not surprisingly, there is also a “cancer gap.” Stories about female cancers, such breast and
