Rubio: Trump Echoing Obama by Calling for Reset with Putin
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” host George Stephanopoulos asked GOP presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) what he would do about the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin put combat aircraft and surface-to-air missiles in Syria, and Rubio pointed out that fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is echoing President Obama’s plan. “It sounds like [Trump] thinks that if we have someone who gets along better with Putin personally, things are gonna work out better,” Rubio said. “It sounds a lot like the reset with Russia that the president tried to do. I guess he’s advocating for a reset with Putin. Vladimir Putin has a very clear plan, which is to reposition Russia as a geopolitical force, at least at the same level as the former Soviet Union. This is part of that plan.” Follow Trent Baker on Twitter @MagnifiTrent
De Blasio: Rubio Needs to Reread His Bible
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) discussed his disagreements with Pope Francis’ criticisms of global capitalism. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio reacted to Rubio’s remarks and suggested he should go back and reread Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. De Blasio said, “I would strongly urge Senator Rubio to go back and re-read the Sermon on the Mount. Clearly, the core of Catholic teachings and Christian teachings talks about the economic realities that people face, and has for thousands of years. So I was surprised to hear him make that separation.” He continued, “Let me give two sentences from his holiness talking about trickle down economics . He said, ‘This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system. Meanwhile, the excluded are still waiting.’ that’s Pope Francis talking about something that’s been the core of Catholic teachings for 2,000 years. I’m surprised that Mr. Rubio doesn’t understand that.” Follow Pam Key on Twitter @pamkeyNEN
CNN Poll: Carly Fiorina Surges to Second Place
A new national CNN poll shows that Carly Fiorina is now in second place among Republican presidential candidates followed closely by Ben Carson.
Buchanan: Fiorina Won the Debate, Also Praises Trump, Jeb, Rand, and Rubio
Columnist Pat Buchanan argued Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina won the second primetime debate, but also complimented the performances of Donald Trump, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio on Friday’s “McLaughlin Group.” Buchanan stated, “I think you’d have to say Carly Fiorina won it, John. She was prepared. She was programmed. She was articulate. She was crisp. She was tough. And after the debate was over, everybody said — or a lot of people said she’d won, and she has really won, overwhelmingly, the post-game debate, if you will, on all the TV shows, the talking shows. So, people who think she won are going up, up and up right now, long after the debate is over. But I will say this: there — Carly Fiorina is now being projected as, if you will, the anti-Trump in the Republican Party, someone who will do for the establishment, take down Trump, which the establishment is desperate to get done. So, I think — I don’t think anybody was badly hurt in the debate. Some people did well. I think some people did very well. But there’s no doubt about it, I think, that Carly comes
Rubio: The President’s a Christian, But That Debate Is ‘Irrelevant’
Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio stated that while fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump should have pushed back on a questioner who said President Obama is a Muslim, the president is a Christian, and his faith is irrelevant on Friday’s “Kelly File” on the Fox News Channel. Rubio said Trump should have pushed back on the questioner, as he has in the past. He continued, “I think that’s irrelevant, and second of all, it’s not true. And the president has made very clear what his faith is…Christianity, if someone says they’re a Christian, and that’s what they are, we accept that. That’s what it is. And I don’t know why that keeps coming up. The truth is, my problems with the president are not personal. My problems with the president are his policy decisions. They’re dangerous for America on national security, and they’re bad for our economy, and for the individual lives of our people.” Earlier, Rubio commented on Trump saying that he’ll have good advisers by stating that another candidate, Carly Fiorina showed, “if you take the time, you can learn a lot about these issues. But what’s important is that you need to be prepared to lead the very first
